ChiangMai Philatelic Museum is located on the west bank of PingRiver near TonLamyai market and Warorot Plaza or kard Luang, Thanon Praisanee, Amphoe Muang, ChiangMai Province. In the early ages, the area where ChiangMai Philatelic Museum is now located used to be the Court of Justice of the Northwest County of Thailand inside which prisoners were placed in confinement. Later, the building was reconstructed in 1918 to be used as ChiangMai Post Office which, afterwards, was moved to SamPaKoi District near ChiangMai Railway Station to facilitate the receiving and dispatching of mail. The building then became MaePing Post Office which later on was moved to the opposite side. This building was renovated and has finally become ChiangMai Philatelic Museum up to the present time.
The official opening ceremony to the public was on 12th April 1996, the same day the 7th centenary of ChiangMai Province. The old style architecture building has been preserved for a later generation to have an opportunity to admire its magnificence. Moreover, the Fine Arts Department has registered this building as a Thai heritage.
